Tiffany Style Lamp (Repairs)
Here is a classic example of damage caused to a Tiffany style lamp shade with broken and fractured glass pieces. As a gift this was in need of repair.
This Tiffany styled lamp was constructed in the traditional method of copper foiling and soldering which was observed from the broken section of the lamp. As you can see from the picture I have highlighted the breaks and cracks with arrrows. As long as the lamps are made in the traditional method (copper foiling) the process becomes a repair in reverse order of making a lamp. Care must be taken when removing any broken sections as you do not want to disturb the lamps construction. Once all the broken and cracked glass sections have been removed glass is then matched up to what had beeen used in the original lamp. Once this has been done you can then repair each section piece by piece making templates as you go along.
Tiffany and Tiffany styled lamps made in the traditional methods of copper foiling are easily repairable with the time and care required to preserve what has once been created.
These lamps are very robust and will last for years, but accidents do happen as you can see from these pictures.
This lamp was restored back to its original state with an exact match in glass and a good clean up, much to the pleasure of the customer.
